Books That’ll Pull You Out of Your Reading Slump

We’ve all been there. You’re stuck in a reading slump, your TBR pile is judging you, and your bookshelves are side-eyeing you with their please-read-me stares. But don’t worry—there’s hope. Sometimes all it takes is a book that clicks to get you back into the groove.

I’ve been in and out of slumps, and trust me, I’ve tried everything from audiobooks to rereading my favorite childhood novels. In case you’re in the same boat, I wrote a whole post about How to Romanticize Reading When You’re in a Reading Slump, which gave me some much-needed clarity on how to reawaken my reading joy. But if you’re looking for book recommendations that’ll help pull you out of that slump? I’ve got you covered.

1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This book is pure magic. It’s a whimsical fantasy with a slow-burn romance, mysterious circus tents, and characters who feel like they’re straight out of a dream. The atmosphere is so immersive, it practically pulls you into the pages. If you’re someone who needs to get lost in a world to forget about your slump—this is the book.

2. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

If you love drama, glamour, and an epic character arc, this is your book. It’s a story of old Hollywood, fierce women, and untold secrets. You won’t be able to put it down. Plus, the pacing is fast, and the characters are so vibrant that you can’t help but get attached. It's the perfect pick-me-up if you’re craving something emotional, but also super addictive.

3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

If you’re in the mood for something light, funny, and swoon-worthy, this is it. Enemies-to-lovers at its finest with just enough spice to get you back into the groove of reading. It’s a rom-com with all the right doses of tension, humor, and heart. A perfect, low-stakes way to ease yourself back into the world of books.

4. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

This one’s for when you want something that’ll hit you hard in the heart and keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s action-packed, has incredible world-building, and a squad of characters who feel like friends you’re ready to root for. If your slump’s more about needing excitement and complex characters, this is a solid pick.

5. Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Sometimes, you need a character who’s a bit of a mess, but in the most lovable way. Eleanor’s quirky, socially awkward, and has a whole journey of self-discovery that’s both hilarious and heartbreaking. It’s the perfect mix of humor and depth to get you back into reading, with a story that feels both light and meaningful.

Honorable Mentions: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell for nostalgia, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak for feels, and The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary for a feel-good romance.

So, next time you find yourself in a slump, grab one of these books. Trust me, once you get hooked, that reading slump will be a thing of the past.
